The exploration begins with an overview during the orientation. The participants are randomly selected to serve as providers (physician or nurse), patient or family member (relative and/or patient advocate). All participants review the case based on their assigned role prior to the interaction. Participants assume their designated role of provider, patient, or family member. The encounter and interaction commence. A proctor monitors the experience to ensure timeliness, comfort and safety for all participants. Once the encounter ends, a debriefing period follows to evaluate the experience and conclude the simulation. A closing video presentation highlighting the actual outcome of the maternal case culminates the experience.
